The bus ride between Sao Paulo and Foz do Iguacu takes approximately 17 hours. Even though there are regular flights, bus travel is preferred by many since it is cheaper and easy to arrange.

 

Bus Companies

 

The two companies offering the Sao Paulo to Foz do Iguacu direct route. The Pluma company have departures from both the Tiete terminal (Sao Paulo's main bus terminal), and the Barra Funda Terminal at different times during the day. Catarinense offer buses that depart from the Barra Funda Terminal only, which you can access by Sao Paulo's metro. Both bus companies arrive to the Rodoviaria Internacional de Foz do Iguacu (Foz's main bus terminal):

Classes of buses used on this route are:

 

  • Leito - Most recline

  • Executivo - almost full recline

  • Semileito DD - Semi-bed recline in double decker bus

  • Convencional - Semi-bed half recline

 

Once out of Sao Paulo, the whole route is highway and the scenerary is mostly flat farmlands, and little towns. 

 

Remember to arrive to the correct bus terminal at least 40 minutes before the scheduled departure because you will need to redeem your ticket at the Ticket Desk of your chosen company;  there they will also tell you which is the boarding platform for this particular trip. We suggest you to take something to drink and eat since there are no snacks or drinks onboard, but you do stop every few hours at locations where purchasing food/drink is possible. We strongly recommend that you take warm clothes on board with you as the air conditioning is usually very strong. All the buses have basic bathroom onboard.

 

To purchase a ticket online directly you may need a CPF number which is like a Brazilian Tax File number.
